First full day in Rottedam

We woke around 9am. Tineke had provided gorgeous summer berries for breakfast, Greek yoghurt and really nice cereal. Yum. I worked on her computer updating the earlier entries on this blog and soon I’ll be able to add photos. I couldn’t find a cable for the camera but can download pictures from the iphone. So…here come the pictures! We are also grappling with how to use our cellphones as they are not recognising roaming here. S bought a local card so once he’s worked out how to get into his phone, he’ll be able to use a local number and access the internet once that’s been achieved.

Tineke has taken us for a sightseeing drive around Rotterdam.  I’ve taken pictures of some of the sights (of course). Being a city that was bombed during the war, the architecture is a mixture of 1950s/60s architecture as well as very modern. The city has also pockets of very old architecture which is also quite interesting as well. We’ll see a lot more of this type in Amsterdam of course.

In the late afternoon we came home, had a beer and opened the windows to let the breeze in. Like yesterday evening, the thunder clouds have begun to gather and we’ll have another huge downpour of rain, no doubt.

I also must make a mention of Dutch peanut butter which Tineke as introduced to us it’s like no other, and I like it. S thinks he’s seen the same jar in Island Bay supermarket in a special aisle. We’ll keep an eye out next time we are there.
